SYMPOSIUM CFP
The scientific, cultural and artistic reputation of a country is directly proportional to the strong and talented scientists, philosophers and scholars it has raised/trained/educated. The Ottoman Empire had become an island of peace and a basin of civilization since the beginning of the 15th century, and upon the invitation of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, many scientists, scholars and artists such as Ali Kuşçu, who brought a scientific value to Istanbul, had gathered in the Ottoman country. Scientists and artists found the support and reputation they needed in the Ottoman country. As a result of this, they added scientific and artistic value to this country, which continued its status as the center of science, culture and civilization until the beginning of the 20th century.
Kemalpashazade (d.1534) was one of the leading scholars who grew up in the Ottoman country at a time when the Ottoman Empire was on the rise and made scientific research, original studies and educational studies. With this Symposium, we want to identify and reveal the success of Kemalpashazade, both as a scientist and Sheikh al-Islam, and make it a source of inspiration for new scientific achievements in the Islamic world. Because of the fact that he was a Shaykh al-Islam, the ordinary people may think that he is an authority only in the science of fiqh, but Kemalpashazade is a great scholar and thinker who has produced valuable works in all fields of Fiqh, Tafsir, Hadith, Kalam, Philosophy, History, Literature and Linguistics. Kemalpashazade lived after the ascension period when peak works were given in all of the aforementioned disciplines. Since he saw that voluminous works were created in every field, instead of adding new ones, he preferred to write treatise-style works to analyze specific problems in these branches of science and present new perspectives. The fact that his works are not descriptive but analytical and critical shows this.Kemalpashazade discussed the views and statements put forward by the prominent representatives of the field before him in the issue he was examining, stated the aspects that he agreed with and criticized according to his own point of view, and often offered an original approach and solution.
In Turkey the first symposium on the subject of Kemalpashazade, was held in 1985 in Tokat, with the name of Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Kemal Symposium, with the support and encouragement Tokat governor at that time Recep Yazicioglu, and the organization of M. Sait S. Hayri Bolay with Yazioglu. The papers of this symposium were published by TDV Publications in 1986 with the name “Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Kemal”.
Some of Kemalpashazade works were published independently, his treatises and small volume hashiye-style works were collected by Dârü’l-lübâb publications in an 8-volume encyclopedic book called Mecmûu Resâili’l-Allame Ibn Kemal Pasha and published in its original Arabic form in Istanbul in 2018. His book, Tevarih-i Âli Osman, was published by the Turkish Historical Society. Kemalpashazade’s views and approaches in various branches of science have been the subject of many studies in the form of thesis, article, symposium papers and book.
We are proud to commemorate Kemalpashazade, one of the most brilliant and talented scholars of the Ottoman Period in Ankara, with an international symposium and in this way support the development of science, thought and culture. We invite you, valuable scientists who are researching Kemalpashazade in various aspects, to our Symposium to present your paper on Kemalpashazade.

Since our symposium will be held in May 2022, it is predicted that the coronavirus epidemic will slow down or the risk will completely disappear until this time. If the developments proceed as predicted, the Symposium will be held entirely in “face-to-face conference rooms”. In case the seriousness of the coronavirus epidemic continues, it will be carried out partly in “face to face” and partly in an “online” environment.
The abstract sent to symposium will be accepted if they are approved to have scientific value after being reviewed by the referee and evaluated through blind review.
